Manage Stylesheets

You can customize the overall look and feel of your LMS by editing or adding Cascading Style Sheet files (*.css files). This includes background colors, button and icon colors, font colors, and other elements presented to your students.

Feature Overview and Requirements

Customizing stylesheets in the LMS is a great way to brand your portal in familiar colors and styles your users can identify with. A knowledge of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is extremely helpful and some portal administrators may wish to engage their internal web developers for help.

While Latitude offers a basic style guide to updating the most commonly-requested style elements, our developers are also available to make designated updates as part of paid operational services. For more information and an estimate, contact Latitude Support with a detailed specification of the desired changes.

Step by Step Procedure and Field Description

  1. From the Administration menu, select Site Management > Edit Stylesheets.
  2. On the Edit Stylesheets page, use the Stylesheet File drop-down list to select the stylesheet you wish to edit.
  3. For protection of existing settings, we recommend keeping the standard default and clicking Copy File to create a new version of the standard file you can work on safely until it functions as desired. Alternatively, right click on the stylesheet content and click Select All, then when highlighted, click Copy. Save the copied content into a text editor like Notepad or Notepad ++ so that you can restore it, if necessary.
  4. In your working file, find the element representing the style you want to change and modify the color codes shown in the file now, or add the correct syntax and codes to include a new element in the stylesheet. Most of the commonly customized settings are found in the default stylesheet file.
  5. For elements you can’t find, you may need to add the full code to establish the style.

  6. Click Submit to save changes.
NOTE: If you do not see the changes you implemented in the stylesheet and you are certain that your syntax is correct, try clearing your browser cache and refreshing the browser.
